My typical solve times for Hard, with auto-candidate mode on, are 8-10 minutes. I've gotten lucky and solved them in as little as 2.5 minutes, and I've been really stuck for as long as 45 minutes. Oh my God. 11 or 12 minutes for NYT hard.

In my experience the hardest technique required to solve an NYT Hard puzzle is almost always uncovering a hidden pair or triple. I checked today's puzzle and that was the case. I agree that it can often be quite tricky to spot a hidden triple but with NYT hard you know what you're looking for.
