Breaker. Pure Meat. XLT. Open Water. Comparisons (I'll use the XLT as the "standard" since I feel that's my best all around call) Open Water - really loud call I use for very windy days. Has a high ringing hail call, but can also get low. For me sort of a specialty call. Not as raspy as the XLT--more higher pitched.

I have a mallard mauler somewhere, seemed to have lost track of it while i was in the marines, but oh well. That was my favorite call, but my acrylic is a close second.

Duck Calls are subjective to each person's own calling style and ability. The only way to find one you truly like is to use it and call with friends or partners who can give you feedback! I personally use a Gaston Custom call in cocobola and a custom call made by a wise old duck hunter named Eddie Cribb in Florence, SC.

African Blackwood or Iron Desertwood have become my favorite for a duck calls. Yep! Consider the majority of wood calls are hedge (bois d'arc, Osage) and cocobola: They make the good tones. African Black-Wood is great stuff though, I have one on my drops.

So many ducks, so little time . . . 1 and 1A are the T-1 and hybrid. They are both really great calls. I like the T-1 with the 1.380 heavy dog ear reed as well, smooth set-up. I knew this would happen. If you were able to ask a bunch of Lares owners, you'd get a wide variety of opinions.

The reeds that came in mine wouldnt even run, looked like a 5 year old tuned the call. After swapping multi reed thinknesses finally found one that would run and still not up to par for a hunting call. I now have 2 DL duck calls that rock the display. Goose call is great, just so long as i put other guts in it.

  10. best echo duck call - Duck Hunting Forum

    www.duckhuntingchat.com/threads/best-echo-duck-call.190543

I have several Echo Timber, XLT and Open water calls. If you want a medium volume call, the XLT is the one to go with. The Timber is a much softer call designed for flooded timber where you don't want volume. Since almost all of Echo's videos are filmed in flooded timber you will see the Timber call used almost exclusively.

Start with a RNT hunter series call ($40 to $50) til ya get the feel of it. Dont waste $150 trying to grow into a call you might not like or be able to blow. IMO the best all time all-around call for the money and the ease of use for a beginner is a Haydel's DR85 ($15). Just my $.02.
