After 25 years and many challenges in the open-air location, the World Bodypainting Festival 2023 marked a new chapter with its 26th edition: For the first time, the Bodypainting and Makeup World Championships took place in a weather-independent indoor location, the Messearena Klagenfurt.
The World Bodypainting Festival is the biggest bodypainting event worldwide and every year the world awards are presented in different categories. In 2011 the festival moved a few kilometres further to the lake Wörthersee into the town Poertschach.
In 1998 the 1st Bodypainting Festival of Europe took place in Seeboden, in the south of Austria. The event was absolutely unique in its form and was the founding element of the modern bodypainting art movement.
