Re: Full Moon « Reply #3 on: Dec 27, 2012, 06:03 AM » yes, i do think it has some affects. you see more activity, on some days, when its on the horizons. i don't keep track of or plan around it though.
The full moon is coming up on March 9th. Ice Fishing for Lake Trout should be good from the 8th to the 10th with peak periods on the solunar table around midnight, Sunday and Monday night, at least in our area. The last Full Moon in February, I was fortunate enough to catch these two.
Well my one and only trip up north this season is already in the books. Baby girl (Finley) on the way in a few weeks so its time to stay local since the wife is getting crankier as the days get closer.
dress warm and have some sonar....usually you can get more than you need in the light of day....but if you wanna night fish...have your spot scoped out before its dark...have plenty of propane..cause it will be as cold as anywhere in the state...have nite fished g town in full moons before....definitely caught fish...but it was more of a novelty..still you are fishin when others are sleeping ...
However, research conducted on how this effects fishing catch rates disproves any significant differences during different moon phases. On freshwater the moon effect is nil. That being said, since it is certainly brighter during a full moon, perhaps some fish may take advantage of the light at night and move or even feed more.
I fish just before a storm.and after it leaves the barometer should be moving and of course a full moon dosen't hurt i fish for trout other fish like crappie bite during the foul weather in my opinion.

Incredible time out ice fishing a few days ago with my older sister and her BF from AUSTRALIA; neither of which have been ice fishing before.
Anyone do well when its dark such as early morning? I set up on a spot that is hot during daylight, I can see a variety of fish on hummer sonar screen early morning (dark) but only pick a couple.
There was good ice three years ago but NO smelt all season; even Maine was poor. I last fished NH on the Squamscott in 2011, and the fishing was pretty good.
