08-08-202009:33 AM. USPS has always recycled numbers. Some tracking numbers were never used for various reasons, messed up form, still sitting in someone's shipping room and waiting to be used, etc. Eventually, they are all recycled. The problem seems to be etsy dredging them up and sending messages to old customers when the numbers are reused.
In the future, make sure you track the package back to you. Put in text notifications for that package and do not refund until you get the notification that it was refused. Send the customer the tracking number and show them that you havent recieved the item back. It was against your policy in the first place 🤷.
There are indeed different kinds of scans and different kinds of tracking numbers. Each carrier has their own approach. The USPS does indeed have "package tracking" with package tracking numbers and package tracking scans. Tracking for First Class letters and flats involves a different kind of tracking number(s) and a different scanning protocol.
Conversation Maker. 12-22-202004:39 PM. @SteezyBags The lengthy tracking delays seem to be a current issue due to USPS being overwhelmed. In the past, my tracking would update the same day, or at the very latest, the next day.
Re: USPS inquiry. Scroll down to below the chart that states when mail is considered late. Look for the small print that says: "If you wish to contact a customer representative, email us your concern with as much detail as possible and we'll get back to you."

So I have never had this happen before. It was a mistake on the post office side. It has resolved itself but shows as a mistake on my end in the badge tracking tally. Wishing Etsy would account for this.
10-04-202212:07 AM. USPS rates increased effective today so labels purchased today will reflect the new rate increase. Orders placed before today had shipping costs applicable at the time the order was placed. Orders from today going forward will automatically show the new rate if you use calculated shipping.

I only glance to see what has completed delivery and only check now if the package is overdue. Too much focus on tracking I found is not conducive to really running a good shop. Takes too much time away. And to add unless you use USPS new service to keep bar codes for a price, the bar codes are released to be reused after the item is delivered.
