The National People's Power ( NPP ), or Jathika Jana Balawegaya ( JJB ), is a political alliance in Sri Lanka. It was established in 2019 [ 2] by Anura Kumara Dissanayake, leader of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna. [ 3][ 4][ 5] It consists of 28 political parties and other organisations. It contests in elections under the compass logo.
Starting from the early 1950s, Sri Lankan politics was mostly dominated by two political parties and their respective coalitions : the centre-left social democratic Sri Lanka Freedom Party. the centre-right liberal conservative United National Party. Recently, however, the influence of the two parties has diminished significantly.

The 16th Parliament of Sri Lanka is the current Parliament of Sri Lanka, with the membership determined by the results of the 2020 parliamentary election held on 5 August 2020. According to the Constitution of Sri Lanka the maximum legislative term of the parliament is 5 years from the first meeting.
